Newborn kangaroos, or joeys, are still technically embryos — or at least embryo-like. Once they move from the birth canal to their mother’s pouch, the one-inch, bean-sized joey attaches to a nipple and stays there, growing for another couple of months. The joey will start leaving the pouch for short trips at around six months old.
